I have to say that John M. gives a towering performance, and you must admire his success in portraying a vile individual and an equally vile world in which he operates. The play is merciless in portraying the skill and ferocity of Barry's attack on his victim, on all others around him, and on the gullible people who surround him. Is it enjoyable: not really. Is it providing any catharsis to mention Aristotle's belief in the purpose of theatre? Not really, because you leave knowing that despite the job-like defeat of Barry at the end, it is all a temporary situation, and sleeze will rise again. So, ultimately no change. Does it keep our attention? Yes, to the point when you feel like screaming at the end of act 1, and you stay in the hope that something will move. It does not, and you leave feeling dirtier and more despondent than when you entered.

A very good topical play by a very good cast.
